What started out in 2005 as a couple of guys looking for a different and alternative holiday where friends from across the globe could chill out without the hassle of facing hectic crowds, has now flourished into a full blown holiday company. The idea grew from the fact that Erik Biörklund and William Wenkel, The Yacht Week’s Co-Founders had the time of their lives working as skippers during their holidays. Their days
were spent surrounded by amazing weather, scenery and food, but the only thing missing were their friends. So in 2006, they decided to
charter a bunch of boats and invite their friends along for the ride.
A year on it was larger than they’d ever expected and so when it got to +500 people during a week (250 people year one) and, after receiving incredible feedback, they just said ‘let’s do it, invite people from new places and make it an international thing – we shouldn’t be the only people to enjoy and experience such splendor!’. Today, the mixture of over 40 nationalities, personalities and characters is one of the key factors that make The Yacht Week so unique.
Yacht Weekers wake up every morning, embark on a fresh adventure, go to new, untouched places, raft up with other crews, anchor in a port should groups which to visit mainland then join up and meet the rest of the Yacht Weekers on a private island / outdoor club, dine and party together till sunrise. Sailing invites people to connect to other people – sailors and non sailors alike – which is what makes each week so individual and special.
Since the start the concept hasn’t changed – book a boat at very little cost, get a group of friends together and become part of a 20-50 yacht flotilla – the only thing that’s different are the destinations. Before, The Yacht Week was only available in Croatia with 27 yachts, now holidays are available to Croatia and The British Virgin Islands, Greece, Italy and Turkey with a flotilla consisting of 1200 yachts. The team still consists of Erik & William but has got bigger and better over the years to make sure all 40 nationalities are catered to.
With managers in 20 countries and on ground events managers, we expect everyone to chill out and enjoy everything that the Yacht Week’s about: hanging out with your friends, meeting new, fun, young people, big time parties, relaxation and hours surrounded by pristine, un-touched regions of the world with awesome people.
So this year, go sailing with or without a Yacht Week skipper, make new friends, party at night and have the time of your life at little cost!
Welcome on Board
