Testimonials
Philipp, 24 years old, Austria
Skipper and Instructor
I grew up sailing mostly in Croatia and the Adriatic Sea and found sailing as one of my few big passions in life. When I am not sailing or out doing other fun activities I am studying Web Business and Technology at the University of Applied Science in Kufstein
I started working for the Yacht Week two years ago and have been sailing in the BVI, Croatia and Greece as well as working as an Instructor for the Skipper Academy.
Working as a skipper for the Yacht Week has been one of the best experiences in my life and I am glad to say that I will never forget those weeks. Apart from spending some of the best weeks in your life sailing on the sea you have the opportunity to get experience in handling a yacht of up to 54ft and learn what it means to be responsible for a yacht and its crew. As a skipper with the Yacht Week you get to know people from countries all over the world and learn to grow an international network of skippers that will be part of one of the best events in the summer. Additionally with the parties and fun activities makes being a skipper with the Yacht Week the best summer job I have ever done.
So hopefully see you at one of the events next summer!
Sofie, 26 years old, Sweden
Skipper manager and skipper for 2 weeks
Holder of a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering and Management, I’m now working as an IT and management consultant in Stockholm.
As a kid I spent my summers sailing with my family and at the age of 14 I started sailing traditional sailboats with Svenska Kryssarklubbens (SXKs) seglarskola. I have now done 10 years on these traditional boats: 4 as a student, 4 as an instructor and 2 as a mate. The last two summers (2009 and 2010) I have done 5 weeks of skippering with The Yacht Week – 4 in Croatia and 1 in Greece.
Why did I join TYW? I met William when sailing with SXK in Sweden three years ago. He was then in need of more skippers and asked me to join them. I couldn’t do it that summer but signed up for the next year. I thought it would be a great experience, both in terms of sailing and leadership, but also a lot of fun. The reason I did it again this year was because I was right: I had one of my best summer experiences ever, and I have got to meet and sail with people from all over the world.
Lauri, 30 years old, Finland
Skipper and Instructor
I have a Masters degree in Economics and Business Administration. In my real life I work as a Planning Manager but on my spare time I try to sail as much as I can. I’m part of Helsingfors Segelsällskap (HSS) sailing club where I have my own match race team for Elliot 6 match race boats. Besides that I sail and race with various other boats.
A couple of years ago one of my friends from HSS told me about The Yacht Week. I saw the video and decided that I want to be part of that community. And I can tell you I haven’t had any regrets! I have been sailing in BVI and in Greece, I have met wonderful people and I have made lots of new friends from all over the world.
Now I try to spend most of my holidays sailing with TYW. Next spring I’m going to work as an instructor in the skipper academy and I hope that I’ll see you there. I promise that you’ll have the best summer job of your life
