We've partnered up with the marvelous Sea Going Green and are hoping to raise global awareness within our open-minded community about how to be a sustainable sailor this summer.
1. SAVE WATER, STAY SALTY
And if you have to shower, shower together.
Did you know that an average shower lasts 8.2 minutes and uses 65L of water? Something to think about when you're lathering up.
2. SKIP THE STRAW
Our goal for 2018 is to have a #strawfreesummer. Say no to plastic straws or ask for an alternative such as a bamboo straw or a straw made of straw. Straw-ception for you.
3. CHOOSE AN OCEAN-SAFE SUNSCREEN
Choose reef safe sunscreen, conventional sunscreen is extremely dangerous to the marine environment and can contribute to coral bleaching.
4. RECYCLE YOUR FLOATIE
Whether you've been floating on a flamingo, a slice of watermelon or a donut for the week, upcycle it for future sailors to use. Help a fellow Yacht Weeker and the big blue out.
5. DON'T THROW ANYTHING OVERBOARD
Nothing should be thrown overboard and all rubbish should go into a trash bag immediately to avoid it blowing into the sea. If you bring floaties, make sure they don't drift off and get lost at sea.
6. IF YOU SEE TRASH, PICK IT UP
This one is pretty simple really. Plastic or not, pick it up.
7. REFILL YOUR WATER BOTTLES
Don't throw out your plastic water bottles, refill them! If you carry a reusable one, most places will be happy to refill it for you. We all know that drinking our recommended intake of 8 glasses of water a day is important, but what we drink it out of is also just as important.
It's Earth Day, every day. You guys play a critical role in our sustainable story. Help us protect our oceans and preserve the places we fall in love with ?
