Where did you grow up?

I grew up in the German Odenwald, in a small town called Moerlenbach with a population of 11,000 people. I really enjoyed being surrounded by nature - building treehouses was one of my favourite thing to do.

What's the craziest thing you've ever done to get the perfect shot?

Last year in Indonesia, my friend Jason and I went to Nusa Penida - it's an island with some of the most beautiful landscape I have ever seen. The cliffs are really high and look amazing. I saw this huge cliff and I knew I needed to climb it, so I told Jason to set up the drone and catch this epic moment. However, I was only wearing flip flops and had a huge backpack on.

After 20 minutes of climbing, I was at the end of the cliff and there was only about 10cm of space to both my left and right. So I waited, trying not to fall down, but I could already Jason was having trouble flying the drone so I climbed back down. As soon as I got back, Jason told me the signal wouldn't work and the drone had some sand in it so it wouldn't fly anymore. We had to leave the island the next day so there was no chance to go there again but I couldn't forget about that shot...

So, one week later we hopped back on a boat to the island with a working drone and a bunch of strangers and thankfully everything worked out this time and we got the shot. Going the extra mile is always worth it.

Which song always transports you back to summer and why?

My Face by Biga Ranx because at the beach club LaBrisa Bali, which was my favourite spot to edit footage, they played that song all the time.

Who or what inspired your passion photography/videography?

The feeling of going out in the field, no matter what the weather or what time it is, then always looking for things and perspectives regular people won't see - that's what makes your work unique. Also, jumping on your laptop and seeing the beauty you just caught is a feeling which makes me so passionate about creating content. I always feel rewarded right away when I see what I worked for.

Which dream travel destination are you still to tick off your bucket list?

Iceland. The landscape there is just mindblowing and I love nature. But the main reason is to see the Northern Lights. I am so excited to capture this unique and epic natural spectacle.

What gear are you using to capture TYW and TSW this year?

I'm mainly using a Sony A7 iii camera with the Tamron 28-75 2.8 for both photo and video. Plus, the Panasonic Lumix GH5 + Sigma 18-35 = speed booster to get some epic smooth B-roll. Also, the GoPro 7 to get some smooth hyper-lapse and underwater footage.

What's your party drink of choice?

Mai Tai is the one.

Which TYW or TSW destination are you most excited about experiencing this year?

The BVI! Whoop whoop!

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Toledo, Ohio, but have lived in Hawaii for the past seven years. I went to the University of Hawaii to swim D1 and never left because of my love for the ocean, constant adventure and the beautiful islands.

What's the craziest thing you've ever done to get the perfect shot?

Too many to count! Let's go with the first three that come to mind...

  • Rappelling (abseiling) a 230 ft. waterfall and rappelling 24 waterfalls in one day for a tour company on Maui. On some of them, I had a camera in one hand and literally my life and the rope in the other hand.
  • Going into the Alaskan backcountry in the Chugach Mountains (Tompsom Pass). We road snowmachines deep into the mountains, then I snowboarded in avalanche-prone areas to get the shot. I was thrown off the snowmachine, ripping up the mountain at 50 mph, and went flying 20 ft onto my belly. I turned around and saw the guy I was riding with chasing the snowmachine down the mountain. It was really crazy up there with freezing cold temperatures, going in glacier caves and living 30 miles from the nearest town in a tent in a parking lot.
  • Swimming in 15ft. waves where the water is only around 8 ft. deep on the North Shore of Oahu at Pipeline. This is my FAVORITE thing to do and is near my house in Hawaii! The waves are as big as houses, and this is extremely dangerous, but almost seems normal to me now.

Which song always transports you back to summer and why?

Runaway (U & I) by Galantis for sure!!! It brings back really good memories of my girlfriend and I summer road tripping in Oregon and Washington (PNW) - blasting this song, going on hikes, wakeboarding and chasing waterfalls together.

Who or what inspired your passion photography/videography?

There’s something truly special about being able to stop a moment in time. In a day and age where life seems to move so quickly, I really enjoy slowing down and capturing that magical moment forever with the press of a shutter. That moment can provoke a deep emotional response within you, inspiring you to your core.

Beautiful moments inspire me to capture breathtaking imagery. For me in videography, camera movement is the artificial eye through which my audience sees the scenes and I love to keep it fluid. I want to make videos that inspire others, the ones that make your hair stand up and makes you want to live your life to the fullest.

Which dream travel destination are you still to tick off your bucket list and why are you so excited to go there?

Tahiti!!!! I can't believe I haven't gone yet! Crystal clear water, epic mountains, monster waves, and Tahitian culture.

What gear are you using to capture TYW and TSW this year?

My gear includes:

What's your party drink of choice?

Red wine because I love to get stains while dancing. It's the reason I don't own white clothes! You can't go wrong with a mojito or Corona beer either.

Which TYW or TSW destination are you most excited about experiencing this year?

All of them!? If I have to choose then Japan for The Ski Week because of the famous powder they have there. For The Yacht week, I think the Ultra in Croatia because the festival, mixed with the circle rafts and good times will be insane!!!
