Welcome to Yacht Week. You are joining a curated social world at sea. To keep the fleet moving smoothly, here is what to expect from life on the water and how we manage the route.
THE CREW
Your skipper navigates the route and ensures the yacht's safety. On shore, our event team and onsite medics travel with the fleet to keep everything running seamlessly. Your skipper will brief you on the specifics of yacht life when you board.
ONBOARD SYSTEMS
Living on the water requires adjusting to marine systems.
Power & Climate: The 230V outlets and air conditioning operate effectively only when connected to shore power in a marina, or if your yacht has an active generator. We recommend running the AC at night to cool the cabins and spending days above deck.
Connectivity: Yacht Wi-Fi runs on local mobile networks, so the signal will naturally drop when sailing between islands. You will have reliable access at most marinas. If you need a constant connection, we recommend arranging a data package or asking your yacht rental company about a Wi-Fi dongle at check-in.
Marine Toilets: The plumbing requires manual flushing and cannot process anything inorganic, including toilet paper. Your skipper will show you how this works. Flushing inorganic items blocks the system for the entire cabin.
Sound: You can connect to the yacht’s sound system via Bluetooth. To respect local communities and other crews, marinas require music to be lowered by 8 pm and turned off entirely by 11 pm.
THE CODE
Yacht Week is a shared environment. We expect all crews to look out for each other and the local areas we visit.
Boundaries: We operate with absolute boundaries regarding illegal drugs and sexual harassment. Any violation means you will be asked to leave the route immediately without a refund.
Respecting the Route: If you witness concerning behaviour, report it to your skipper or the event team so it can be handled quietly and quickly.
Pace: The route includes plenty of time to enjoy local venues, but we ask that everyone manage their pace and look out for their crewmates.
The Elements: The sea and the sun dictate the rhythm of the week .
Water Safety: Your skipper manages safety in the water. Avoid swimming after dark, and check the depth before jumping in. If you are a less confident swimmer, let your skipper know privately when you board so they can prepare a life jacket for you.
Sun & Hydration: Sun exposure is significantly higher on the open water. Bring ocean-friendly sunscreen, keep a reusable water bottle on deck, and manage your hydration throughout the day.
Seasickness: If you are prone to motion sickness, pack anti-nausea medication or motion patches. If the water gets breezy, staying above deck and looking at the horizon is the best way to settle it.
ACCESSIBILITY
Moving around a yacht involves steep stairs, wooden gangways, and slippery decks. If you have any injuries or mobility requirements, please email hello@theyachtweek.com before your departure so we can ensure suitable arrangements are made.
