Like so many others, DJ’s, musicians and performers were suddenly left with no work when the pandemic hit in early 2020. Due to restrictions imposed, months worth of work evaporated overnight with very little support provided since to help keep creatives world-over afloat. Naturally, artists of all kinds leapt into the digital spectrum to share their craft and stay engaged with fans. The end result was a slew of incredible digital performances for the world to enjoy during lockdowns. As we approach the end of the year, there are still a great many nations around the world in lockdown and, if this happens to be you this NYE, we wanted to share our favourite livestreams to spice up your couch rave at home
When it comes to streaming dominance in 2020, Defected Records ‘Virtual Festival’ series takes the cake. A three-part event, the first instalment saw the event nominated for DJ Mag’s ‘Best of British’ awards and the second edition aired during November with even more success. The events see a collection of the finest names in house and disco take to the digital stage from different locations around the world. Holding her own alongside a SERIOUSLY impressive lineup of internationals, our pick from the is young-gun Selena Faider. Selena goes in hard and groovy bringing some seriously funky house and disco records to the table.
If you’re after some Croatia FOMO, french media and events company Cercle have you covered. In addition to this adriatic gem being The Yacht Week’s spiritual home some of the most beautiful places in the world lie within its borders.
This two-hour set from Disclosure is the perfect soundtrack to astounding drone shots picturing one of the seven natural wonders of the world - the Plitvice Lakes National Park. Infused with smooth breakbeats, laid back house grooves and quirky soundscapes this is Disclosure at their best performing from a truly jaw-dropping setting.
Taking a step back in time to 2018, our collaboration with Mixmag to bring Claptone to the crystal-clear waters of Croatia is an office and community favourite. A step up from Disclosure - energy wise - Claptone brings their signature brand of tech and house to The Yacht Week’s very own on-water booth and soundsystem, the Buzz Boat. If this doesn’t satisfy your TYW FOMO, look no further than Gorgon City’s performance from the Buzz Boat in 2019.
Vinyl fanatics rejoice, we have something for you too. The one and only disco queen of New York - Natasha Diggs - performed for Glitterbox’s virtual festival back in April and it is absolutely killer. Filled to the brim with funk and disco aplenty, this is a trip through a serious record-collector’s mind exploring the very best of the 70’s and 80’s with modern twists thrown in left, right and centre. We’re still gobsmacked by her collection and, with grooves this fine, if this doesn’t get you off the couch for a boogie around the living room nothing will.
You don’t always need a big budget, camera crew and mountainside location for a quality livestream and Patrick Nazemi proves that in the best way possible. Streaming to his dedicated following on a weekly basis saw the multi-genre mastermind putting out seriously fun, high-quality performances on a variety of platforms during 2020. A long-term member of the mighty Applebum UK DJ collective and resident at the legendary Ibiza Rocks Hotel, Nazemi truly has something for everyone. You can even catch him performing live in Greece for The Yacht Week during week 26, 2021 alongside Applebum collective mate, MC and fellow DJ K1R3Y (also pictured).
