This year’s party theme at Fort George, our 200-year-old fort with insane sunset views, is tropical retro?. If you find yourself wondering “What in the world is tropical retro?”, fear not. We are here to make sure you’re dressed to impress and hopefully by the end of this post you’ll be picking up what we are putting down. Tropical retro is not just a theme, but a vibe. Throw in some hip hop, colourful patterns, pineapples and bottles of bubbly with sparklers and you have got yourself a tropical retro party! Easy peasy, lemon squeezy. TROPICAL RETRO MUST HAVES There is nothing worse than having outfit envy, so here is a list to make sure you are fully equipped to steal the spotlight: Trendy Prints For our lovely ladies: Embody 70’s chic with a hint of Caribbean babe. Feel free to mix it up with colourful floral and fruity patterns to create a new spin on retro fashion. For our dashing fellas Think less of a dad at a barbecue and more of what young Leonardo DiCaprio would wear on a deserted island. Dress up your threads by accenting your colours with pops of gold or psychedelic head wraps. Stylish glitter Use glitter to amp up your tropical look and shine bright like a diamond all night long. (Pro tip: biodegradable glitter is greatly appreciated by us and our friends in the sea) Quirky props The Yacht Week is nothing like the real world so we want you to live out all your tropical retro fantasies. Where else would it be acceptable to wear exotic sunnies and carry pineapples around for tubular picture props? The tropical sky is your limit, but please do leave the Hawaiian flower garlands and colourful wigs at home.   Comfy footwear Trust me, you’ll be thanking us later #pebblesfordays Good vibes This party can’t be considered tropical retro unless we have the vibes to match. We want you to feel as vibrant as your threads and as cool as your drinks. Confidence is key When rocking your tropical retro threads you need to feel like you’re the cat's pyjamas and the bee’s knees. In order to do this think of these 3 C’s - be colourful, classy, and carefree. Pro tip: Guests wearing the funkiest outfits on the night have the best chance to become famous. Okay maybe not famous famous, but definitely TYW insta-famous [insert hair flip]. So get creative, think outside the box, and come up with your own personal interpretation on what being tropical retro really means. And if you find yourself in an outfit bind, Zara and Bershka located in the centre of Split will totally have the accessories you need. Can’t wait to see you there! Keep it groovy loves ✌️
